Company history

Business history

The foundation of Breuell & Hilgenfeldt Holding GmbH is based on a long Hanseatic tradition. As early as 1888, the Breuell family was known for its trading activities among the quartermasters in Hamburg’s free port.

After the end of the Second World War, Mr. Egon Breuell founded the sole proprietorship Egon Breuell Ingenieurbüro und technische Vertretungen on 1.12.1946, which established itself primarily in the fields of electrical and mechanical engineering. In 1968, Berliner Elektrizitäts-Gesellschaft Otto Speck & Co KG and the company BESEG were taken over. Both companies were founded in Berlin in 1913. At the time of the takeover, the company’s headquarters were relocated to Hamburg and at the same time the name was changed to BEG. At this time, the company was particularly active and very successful in lighting technology.

After completing his studies, Reinhard Breuell actively joined the company in 1976, followed by his brother Manfred Breuell in 1980. The brothers founded Breuell Ingenieurbüro GmbH in 1981

Erich Hilgenfeldt founded his one-man business of the same name in 1970, initially selling fastening elements before specializing in cable lugs and solderless connection technology. This focus led to the breakthrough of the new introduction of insulated wire end ferrules and the company’s sustained success. Even then, the brand name HILPRESS was used for the cable lug presses developed in-house.

In 1985, Erich Hilgenfeldt and the Breuell brothers decide to jointly establish the company HILPRESS Lötfreie Kabelschuhe und Verbinder GmbH. Erich Hilgenfeldt also becomes a partner in BREUELL.

This good partnership is still the basis for the success of the company group today. Over the years, we have always managed to accept each other’s opinions despite sometimes having different ones. As a result, we have found a common path that is supported by all shareholders. From small beginnings, a healthy, medium-sized company has developed.
